Finding Your Voice in the Chaos

Drown Out The Noise, Tune Into You

Hi Reader,

This isn't my first newsletter for the year; that's coming next week. But I have been nice and busy behind the scenes and had this thought I just had to share with you. #SelfAwareness

Ready?

Brace yourself.

How many of your decisions last year were influenced by the expectations of others rather than your own inner truth?

When was the last time you truly understood why you felt the way you did?

Here’s a hard truth to digest: many of us have become strangers to our own selves, outsourcing our sense of worth to social media likes, our values to whatever’s trending, and our satisfaction to external validation.

This realisation hits particularly hard as we stand on the brink of 2025, facing pivotal life decisions - career shifts, relationship dynamics, personal evolution.

The brutal reality?

If you can’t distinguish your own voice from the cacophony of external noise, you’re living out someone else’s life script.

In my coaching sessions, I see it all too often. People gather strategies, devour books, and follow advice, yet they find no lasting change because they’re building on the shaky foundations of others’ expectations.

Without deep self-awareness, all personal growth becomes mere self-help theatre - busy work that keeps you stuck in place.

The relentless drive to perform, to optimise, to please, to be perpetually “on” has created such a loud environment that our inner voice is now just a faint whisper we struggle to hear.

Through my coaching experiences, personal challenges, and preparations for Arctic expeditions, I’ve uncovered a critical insight: we’ve become adept at silencing our own truth.

As I gear up for a personal goals and focused work in the coming months, engaging in some profound self-reflection, I’ve come to see how fucking important it is to discern between the pressures from outside and the truths from within. The reality is that you know what your truth is and what you have to do, don't you?

So, while everyone else is rushing to set new goals and make plans, perhaps consider taking a moment to quiet down. Listen to yourself think. You don't have to believe everything you think, but listen.

In this silence, you might just find the courage to live by your own script, not anyone else’s.

Here’s to making 2025 a year where you not only hear but also heed your own voice.

Right, as I mentioned, I'll be back next week with my first "official" newsletter of the year.

As some of you might recall, one of my goals before the end of 2024 was to get my revamped website up and running and to give the weekly newsletter a bit of an overhaul. Both are nearly done, though there's still some tweaking to do over the next week.

You can check both out by using the links at the bottom of this mail.

Also, if you click here the image below, you'll land on the newsletter sign up page where you can sign up for this newsletter as well as a new weekly mail shot I'm starting called The Question. You can check the first one by clicking below.

For now though, I've got one week of leave left before I head back to the office on the 13th of January, but there's a heap of admin to take care of, planning to do, clients to engage with and training to get through for my upcoming expedition in March. (Which you can read more about on the website!)

See you all next week for the first 'official' newsletter of 2025.

Have a great week and stay safe.

And as always, don't forget to be awesome!

The Weight That Sets You Free Hi Reader, Just got back from the Pantanal in Brazil. Jet-lagged as hell, but the good kind. This trip was one of those rare ones where the group just clicked. Easy, fun, no drama and loads of laughs! Everyone got along without anyone having to work at it. Those trips remind you why you do this in the first place. They also remind me when it's time for things to change. For those who've been following along, you know where this is heading. For all intents and...

Hi Reader, First weekend home in quite a while. Still processing the Arctic - the silence, the clarity, the way everything unnecessary just falls away up there. In 72 hours or so I'll be on a plane to Brazil, so this time at home has been about catching up on life, training, and the things that actually matter when you stop moving long enough to notice them. This week I want to talk about something I see every single day. In friends. In colleagues. In the people I work with. We hide. Behind...

Thoughts from the Arctic Hello Reader, I wasn't planning to get a newsletter out today. I'm writing this from EastFjord in Svalbard, two days away from finishing another incredible expedition in the Arctic. But this place does something to you - strips away the noise, leaves you with clarity that demands to be shared. We've had eight days of pure magic. Seven polar bears, including one unforgettable moment where a bear walked straight into a group of around 300 walruses. The kind of wildlife...
